Operation Iraqi Freedom
Aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt, 2003. Embedded with the US Navy during Operation Iraqi Freedom, among a crew of more than five thousand.
Life ran in two registers. Below deck, paperwork, phone calls home through crackling lines, sailors resting in front of a screen between shifts. On the flight deck, missiles were loaded, jets took off one after another, bound for targets in Iraq, and returned hours later. The ship itself never stopped.
